UPDATE on Call In Meeting

An update on smoking cessation is now up on the Rx Consultant Web Site (www.rxconsultant.com) and has been mailed to UFCW pharmacist members.  It is a TERRIFIC program and includes 2 hours of CE.  We are fortunate to have the leading experts in the field as authors.  Our authors are currently working with the Board of Pharmacy to develop guidelines for implementing SB 493 as it applies to smoking cessation products.

Attention UFCW Immunizing Pharmacits

California Pharmacy Law requires immunizing pharmacists to recertify their CPR training every 2 years.  If your Employer requires you to immunize, the CE class and time spent for CPR recertification is a job requirement and the UFCW has been successful in requiring Employers to pay.  This includes both the cost of the class and the hours you must spend to complete the class.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your

Union Representative.

Why you should choose the UFCW

Cheryl has been a pharmacist, vice president and union representative at UFCW's Local 770 since 2002. She was a head pharmacist at Rite Aid Pharmacy from 1980 to 2002. Butler is also a member of the California Pharmacists Association.

Albertsons, Ralphs and Vons Negotiation Update - June 27, 2016

UFCW Pharmacists employed at Albertsons, Ralphs and Vons throughout Southern CA voted to authorize economic action, up to and including a strike, if the Company refuses to make a fair offer for a new contract.   Pharmacist demands include annual wage increases, maintaining Employer provided medical benefits and the defined pension plan and addressing staffing issues in the pharmacies.  Although the Collective Bargaining Agreement expired March 6, the 3 companies have failed to propose any wage increases in response to Union demands, are unwilling to continue funding medical benefits at the current levels and have refused to make any changes to staffing issues, claiming the pharmacists are not overworked.

Profits at Albertsons, Vons and Ralphs continue to soar while employee wages stagnate.  Pharmacists often work 12-hour shifts with only a 30 minute lunch break.  Pharmacist responsibilities continue to increase as more procedures formerly performed in doctor's offices transition to retail pharmacies.

Through collective bargaining, legislation and regulation the UFCW strives to provide retail pharmacists with adequate compensation, benefits and protections at the work place.

The UFCW Professional Division is always looking to better serve your needs. With this goal in mind, a representative advisory group of your fellow pharmacists met on March 6 and initiated the "UFCW Professional Division Advisory Committee."

The agenda included discussions on revamping our web site, other communication tools such as text messaging, pharmacists' rights on the job, and continuing education programs sponsored by UFCW.

Please review the Letter to Pharmacists for complete details of the meeting.
